Lahoud condemns attacks against a mosque in the Bekaa
Lebanon, Local, 12/5/2002
The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud yesterday condemned the attack launched against the historical al-Aziz prophet shrine in the outskirts of Anjar, in the Bekaa area on Tuesday evening, as well as all attacks which targeted holy shrines and religious places.
During his meeting yesterday with the Mufti of the Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Rasheed Qabbani, Lahoud called on specialized sides to investigate this attack.
Immediately after the explosion, efforts concentrated on "eliminating" what is considered an attempt to implant dissension, on the ground that there is a dispute over a land between the Islamic al-Awqaf department in the Bekaa and Anjar municipality. All Lebanese sides denounced the incidents.
Meantime, the al-Bekaa branch of the Baath party, in a statement, condemned this attack and described it as only serving enemy ambitions which aim at destabilizing Lebanon.
