Arab-Turkish relations to further develop under AK government
Regional-Turkey, Politics, 12/3/2002
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher expressed belief Monday that Arab-Turkish, including Egyptian-Turkish, relations would further develop under the new government of the Justice and Development Party (AK).
ΚΚΚ In statements carried by the Anatolia news agency, Maher stressed that several people, now serving in the new Turkish government, enjoyed strong ties with Egypt and the other Arab countries.
ΚΚΚ He was hopeful those persons would play a pivotal role in boosting Turkey's relations with the Arab world.
ΚΚΚ The Turkish cultural center in Cairo was inaugurated when Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis was serving as ambassador to Egypt, Maher recalled.
ΚΚΚ On his part, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa sent a message of congratulations to AK leader Recep Tayyib Erdogan and Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.
ΚΚΚ He also sent a similar message to Yakis. Speaking to Anatolia news agency, Moussa voiced conviction that Arab-Turkish relations would be given momentum with Yakis serving as foreign minister.
