Egyptian researcher wins world prize
Egypt, Local, 12/3/2002

Amid tense applause by the attendants, deputy Director of the Water Resources' Researche Institute of the National Center for Water Researches at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nadia al-Bahnasawy received the first prize in "politique 2002" conference held in Lyon, France.

تتت It is worthy mentioning that the Egyptian researcher topped the list of eleven participants from seven European countries.

تتت In a short speech before TV screens, she said that her invention is, in effect, for the whole humanity and it aims basically at purifying the air in the cities of the over-crowded developing countries, which are subjected to the different kinds of pollution. It is cheap in cost, great in usage and could be applied very easily. She hoped that day when her invention is brought to the fore and enter the field of the scientific application.

تتت Nadia received her B.Sc. from Cairo. She, then, traveled to Holland where she got her MS and from Holland to Egypt again to get her Ph.D. After that she began to think how could we reduce the pollution resulting from the cars exhausts? that is how it all started. She managed to devise a technique, simply a filter fixed on the car exhaust pipe in order to transfer the most harmful gases to the lesser ones. With the support of her brother Dr. Adel al-Bahnasawy and Dr. Mahmoud Nasr-Allah at the National Research Center, she had no spare time and, then, finally she could bring her dreams to the reality and complete her important invention over 6 years.

تتتDr. Nadia has written 35 scientific published researches in the field of air and water. She also has received the prize of Scientific Research and Technology Academy in 1996. She has two children; Mahmoud (accountant) and Ghada (researcher).
