Al-Mustaqbal: Al-Qurabi warns against Israel's attempts to control the Red Sea
Yemen-Israel, Politics, 12/3/2002

The Yemeni foreign minister Abu Baker al-Qurabi has warned against the Israeli attempt to control the Red Sea. Attempts which might lead to instability in the region and will negatively affect the trade navigation in this sea.

In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbal issued yesterday, al-Qurabi indicated that the Israeli attempts to control the Red Sea are not new, warning that Israel uses differences among the countries of the region in order to maintain its control on that sea. He called for the elimination of such differences.

Al-Qurabi also called for elimination of all factors of tension and differences in the region in order to prevent Israel from controlling the Red Sea area.

Concerning Maerb operation, al-Qurabi said that his country will not give up its sovereignty, adding that "what the US had made of a violation to the Yemeni sovereignty is but a wrong reading for events or a deliberate interpretation to damage Yemen." He warned that a military act against Iraq will be damaging for the American interests and will endanger stability on the region.
