Syria-UNDP-sign technical assistance Agreements

Syria and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed a technical assistance agreement.

The agreement of technical assistance, support and rehabilitation and sustainable development at Zayzoun Dam area (Midland) was signed on Monday by Syria's State Planning Commission Head, Tawfeeq Ismail and the UNDP Resident Representative, Tawfeeq Bin Amara.

The agreement, which is estimated by US $ 845,000 and financed by the UNDP ($ 50,000), the Italian government ($ 745,000) and Syrian government ($ 50,000), aims at supporting local efforts of the governorate of Hama to rehabilitate the damaged area of Zayzoun Dam and affording the area inhabitants with sustainable means of living.

Meanwhile, Syria, represented by the Head of the State Planning Commission, Tawfeeq Ismail and China, represented by the visiting Deputy Foreign Minister signed two agreements on Monday.

According to the two signed agreements, China will provide Syria with a ten year loan sums up $ 4 million to be used for projects to be agreed upon later and a grant of $ 1,4 million to be spent on later agreed upon projects.

The meeting ceremony was attended by the Chinese Deputy FM accompanying delegation, Chinese Ambassador in Damascus and a number of state planning commission technicians.
