Liberation: Barazani and the war against Iraq

The chairman of the Kurdistani Democratic party, Masoud al-Barazani, announced that the war against Iraq is very possible because the Americans have commited a lot into this direction, and that toppling attempts and conspiracies failed to topple the Iraqi president.

In a statement to the French daily Liberation issued yesterday, al-Barazani expressed his rejection for founding an American administration and a military government in Iraq.

He added he wants to build a multilateral democratic system with a genuine constitution in order to rebuild the bases of a state where the Kurds will be represented according to their population percentage. He stressed that until now, no real discussions was initiated with Washington on the future of Iraq.

Al-Barazani added "we will not attack the Iraqi army, but we will fight in order to defend the Kurdish areas and to return back those who were expelled back to their home. We will not attack the Iraqi tanks because we are not able to defend our cities and villages which are situated in the plains but we will retreat to the mountains."
