Iraqi opposition conference in London on January 13
Iraq, Politics, 11/28/2002
Officials in the main opposition Iraqi groups said that the plenary conference for the Iraqi opposition will be held in London on January 13 through 15 after the completion of preliminary meetings in Washington and the last of these meetings will be held on January 2md and 3rd.
The foreign relations official in the Kurdistani Democratic Party Husheyar Zebari said that "some 57 organizations representing the Iraqi opposition will take part in the conference and propose its future vision concerning Iraq, uniting the political address and giving own perceptions for the provisional periods." But he stressed that the idea of appointing a provisional or temporary government will not be debated in the conference since discussing this matter in the past months resulted in the obstruction of several decisions.
He indicated that the conference will appoint a "coordinative commission" only, with the task of following up the conference's decisions and maintaining coordination between the opposition's various sides.
