Sudanese political forces oppose the call of the government on provisional phase arrangements dialogue

Sudanese official sources stressed yesterday that Washington invited the Sudanese government to meet in the USA with representatives for the rebels in an attempt to settle differences before convening the new round of peace talks which will start in January 2003.

The Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Aam said that Khartoum has received an official invitation from the USA to attend the meetings with rebels representatives in Washington next month with the aim of bringing view points together in areas of differences.

The last round of peace talks between the two sides ended into an agreement on ceasefire, but the negotiators reached a comprehensive agreement on the issue of sharing the authority. A pivotal issue in any agreement to end the war taking place in the south since 19 years.

In the same context, the Sudanese opposition political forces on Monday opposed the invitation extended to it to take part in the dialogue on the arrangements of the provisional period and the national government and considered it as revealing a crisis inside the government which used to refuse previously the participation of the opposition in Nairobi's negotiations and that the government wants from the political forces to work as a consultation team. A matter which is rejected by the opposition.

The leading figure in Umma party Abdul Mahmoud al-Haj Saleh has described the call of the government as coming very late. He said that the government is late and does not compensate for this delay and even the invitation is incomplete.
