Al- Faisal hands message to Mubarak from King; No US pressure concerning Iraq

The Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal denied following his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt yesterday in Cairo any American pressures on the Arab states concerning the Iraqi issue.
Al-Faisal said replying to a question on a request from Washington to the Arab states to collaborate in case of a war against Iraq "There are no American pressures on Saudi Arabia to this effect." He added "the media is another thing. One who listens to the media concerning certain issues feels he is living in different world."
In a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmad Maher, al-Faisal expressed his hope that Iraq's cooperation with the UN inspectors will be conducive to "implementing UN resolutions, ending the crisis and easing down the situation in the region." Al-Faisal stressed that Iraq had accepted the Arab recommendation and position in stressing the need of Iraq's unconditional acceptance of the return of UN inspectors to it and the implementation of UN security council resolutions so as to avoid Iraq the danger of launching new military operations."
He added "the UN inspectors are in Iraq. And we are still hopeful to implement all UN resolutions concerned relating to the war of liberating the state of Kuwait to settle the problem." He indicated that is in compliance with the Arab position.
He added that he had intensified his contacts and visits to Cairo recently because of the escalation of events in the region. He explained that consultations among the Arab states are continuous especially among work committees approved at the recent Arab Beirut summit conference.
According to the Saudi news agency, al- Faisal refused to answer reports attributed to the former chairman of the CIA James Welsy in which he said there are American plans to divide the Saudi territories. Al-Faisal commented "As he is ( Welsy) a former official I do not think I will answer him."
