Tunisia holds International Koranic Contest next week

Tunisia holds for the first time the International Koranic Contest, at the initiative of the Tunisian President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali and with the participation of 12 countries, including Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Iran, Egypt, Algeria, Malaysia, Palestine, Jordan, Morocco and Libya.
A Tunisian official source said the contest which will be held between Nov.26-30 (corresponding to 21-25 of Ramadan), will involve six different branches that include memorizing, reciting and interpreting parts of the Koran.
Six cash prizes will reward the winners, which range between 1,000 and 5,000 dollars.
The jury consists of seven members from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine and Tunisia.
