Demanding trial of former Bahraini intelligence officer over torture
Bahrain, Politics, 11/25/2002

Some 1500 Bahraini took part in a sit in called for by Bahraini political societies in front of the ministry of justice in the capital Manama in protest of the return of former intelligence officer Adel Fleifel to Bahrain. He is accused of committing violations of human rights and of practicing torture.

The observers of the sit in including the chairman of the Democratic National Work society, Abdul Rahman al- Nueimi, and the deputy chairman of the Islamic National Reconciliation Society, Hassan Musjeima', held banners demanding bringing Fleifel before justice on charges of practicing torture during his service at the state security department.

Fleifel who worked in the state security since the beginning of the 1980s fled from Bahrain in May this year during investigations made with him following complaints made by businessmen in which they accused Fleifel and blackmail and abuse of his post.
