The Moroccan government on Thursday renewed pledge to carry on the reform of Morocco's media to enable it face the challenges of modern times.
This came in a government program, presented by Premier Driss Jettou before the two Chambers of Parliament.
Emphasizing the progress posted in the country's media sector at large, Jettou noted that the fourth power has scored gains from the freedom of speech, high professional skill and the diversity of media channels.
"This is an unmistakable indication of the soundness of Moroccan democracy, as a fundamental option," he said, adding that there is no way to renege on what has already been achieved in this regard.
Jettou added that media reform concerns audiovisual sector through the creation of the Supreme Audiovisual Council (CSA), whose prime objective is to end State monopoly.
The government intends to consolidate and modernize the media sector as an embodiment of the consolidation of democracy.
"The media sector will not acquire the immunity and credibility it deserves unless the freedom of the press is practiced within accountability and full respect of the law, of the institutions and of the sacred and constant values of privacy and of ethics," he said.
The promotion of democracy goes through the ability of the media to grasp their influential role and abide by the rules of accountability and professional ethics in this crucial phase in Morocco's history," he specified.
