Iraqi parliamentary delegation meets Moroccan officials
Iraq-Morocco, Politics, 11/21/2002

Speakers of the Moroccan House of Advisers (parliament upper house), Mustapha Okasha, and of the House of Representatives (lower chamber), Abdelouahed Radi, held in Rabat Tuesday separate meetings with a visiting Iraqi parliamentary delegation.

The delegation, led by Monder Alalloussi, head of the National Assembly's oil committee, briefed Okacha on the reasons why the Iraqi administration approved resolution 1441 of the Security Council, in a bid to "spare Iraq a new strike" that would worsen its people's sufferings.

Okacha lauded Iraq's decision to accept the resolution, saying that Morocco is following closely the evolution of the Iraqi crisis and hoped that inspections will be carried out under normal conditions.

During the meeting with Abdelouahed Radi, the Iraqi deputies discussed the economic and social conditions prevailing in Iraq under the sanctions which has been in force for more than ten years, and its consequences on the life of Iraqi people.

The speaker stressed the need to respect international legality and the commitment to apply Iraq-related UN resolutions to guarantee the respect of international law, preserve the country's territorial integrity and relieve its people from the sanctions.
