London does not oppose convening a meeting for the Iraqi opposition

The British foreign office stressed its approval to convene a meeting for the Iraqi opposition in London, to be dedicated to bridge the gap between the various groups.

A spokesman for the British foreign office yesterday said that Britain does not oppose convening the conference of the Iraqi opposition in December in London. The spokesman said "we do not have any objections concerning the meeting. Opposition figures held meetings here in the past." He added that British officials will meet with several Iraqi opposition figures and considered London as an appropriate place for the meeting because the Iraqi community is stationed in it.

However, the spokesman stressed that the British government will not take part in organizing nor financing convening of any meeting.
