Absence of Saudi, Bahraini, Kuwaiti FMs from Doha's Gulf ministers
Gulf-Qatar, Politics, 11/21/2002

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait on Tuesday did not attend the preparatory meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit due to be held on December 22 and 23 in Doha.

To this effect, the Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem al-Thani underplayed the importance of such an absence and said in conclusion of the works of the meeting that differences between the GCC member states can be settled amicably.

Worthy mentioning that Qatar's relations with the three GCC said member states is witnessing tension because of the program of the Qatari al-Jazeera satellite TV channel.

By the beginning of October, the five GCC member states, Qatar's partners in the GCC blamed al-Jazeera over the defamation in certain programs it broadcast targeting some gulf states.

To that effect, Saudi Arabia summoned its ambassador in Doha to make consultation with him, while al-Kuwait closed al-Jazeera office and Bahrain, has been for months, rejecting to give license in Manama for journalists of the said TV channel.
