Blix arrives today in Baghdad; Iraq calls on the UN to stop the American violations
Iraq-USA, Politics, 11/18/2002

With the arrival of the chief of UN weapons inspectors to Iraq, Hans Blix, with his team today in order to resume the inspection operations in implementation of the UN security council resolution 1441, Baghdad has renewed its call to the UN to have its observers in the buffer zone between Iraq and Kuwait control the violations conducted by the British and American planes in southern Iraq and to inform the UN Security Council about that.

In a message he addressed to the UN secretary general Kofi Annan, the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri said that these violations are in contrary to the UN security council resolutions and are considered a flagrant aggression and a form of state terrorism against Iraq as well as a threat to peace keeping operations.

Sabri also called on Annan to put the UN security council before its responsibility to halt this aggression.

On Sunday, an Iraqi military spokesman reported the killing of 7 Iraqis and wounding other 4 in an American- British raid against Iraqi civilian and companies in al-Najaf governorate to the south of Iraq.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz said that his country will guarantee immediate access for the UN inspectors at the sites they want to inspect, stressing that Iraq has not developed any nuclear or chemical weapons since the departure of the former UN inspection committee in 1998.

Aziz said we gave instructions to the administrations to immediately response to the demands of the inspectors to enter any sites and to inspect them."
