While the Jordanian army continue operations, warning for implications of Maan
Jordan, Politics, 11/18/2002

Jordanian officials stressed yesterday that the campaign carried out by the army to arrest wanted citizens in Maan is continuous, though it is taking a shape that differs from that during the seven past days. They stressed that the security forces have now full control on the conditions in the city and that arresting other wanted persons is a matter of time.

The officials indicated that even after the pullout of the army, certain military groups will be stationed permanently in the city.

This situation, however, resulted in large scale warnings made by observers in the Jordanian internal affairs, especially political and media sides which warned against the implications of events in Maan, with the way the government deals with the crisis is still under criticism due to the large volume of military measures taken in the city.

Media sources questioned whether what took place in Maan was an American demand that came in the context of the overall American measures on Amman to accept American forces in Jordan in the context of the preparations to launch a war against Iraq.
