Syria, Politics, 11/18/2002
The official spokesman for the defense committee for human rights in Syria Aktham Nueiseh has welcomed the release of Riad al-Turk, according to the special pardoning issued by President Bashar al-Assad.
In a press statement issued in Damascus yesterday, Nueisah said that the defense committees welcome this step of humanitarian and political significance due to the position Riad al-Turk enjoys inside the Syrian political movement.
He added that the defense committee for human rights indicates that in order that this measure ( releasing al-Turk ) will not loose its positive inclination, it is time now to close the file of political detention in Syria ultimately, and to abrogate rules of the supreme state security court, and to release all detainees of opinions, foremost being Aref Dalila, Kamal Labawani, ( member of the secretaries council in our organization ) and lawyer Habib Issam and other colleagues.
