Al-Seyasah: American- Israeli talks concerning Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 11/16/2002
The Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah issued yesterday said that talks held on a higher level between the Americans and the Israelis are being held in Washington to study the dimensions of the American war expected against Iraq.
The paper quoted diplomatic sources in Washington and Tel Aviv as saying that a team representing high ranking ministers, military men and security leaders and officials of the US defense department and Department of State with their counterparts at the Israeli defense and foreign ministries started on Thursday a strategic dialogue on the dimension of the war against Iraq and the after Saddam Hussein's phase -- in a first step of its kind between the US and Israel in order to legalize detailed introductions and results.
The sources quoted official sides at the US Department of State as saying that the Israeli delegation will discuss in the meetings a detailed and intensive report of new information about Syria, Iraq and Iran, and that to be completed, the report took several months by the National Security Council, the defense department and the leadership of the Israeli army.
The diplomatic sources considered this meeting as the last one before the start of war against Iraq, due to the importance of the participants who are taking part in the decision making in their countries -- stressing that this meeting gives the impression that what was announced by the UN official responsible for the inspection operations for the weapons of Iraq, Hans Blix, on Wednesday that the war might be launched in the mid of December embodied the reality which the US and the UN also believe is evident, as it is not possible for Saddam Hussein to be honest at 100 % concerning the mass destruction weapons he has, and even if he will be 99% honest, the remaining 1% will be the excuse the US will use as pretext to explode of the situation militarily.
The European diplomatic sources stressed that the Israeli delegation will inform the American side that in case the Iraqi list will not include in December mass destruction weapons, the existence of the 20 Iraqi missiles among the banned Iraqi weapons, Israel will find itself no longer obliged to any promise not to take part in the war, because this relates to its national security and the security of the Israeli cities against which Saddam Hussein will use these missiles.
The sources unveiled, quoting an official at the US defense department in Washington that the UN inspectors who will start their missions in Iraq on Monday will be accompanied by groups of western intelligence with a greater possibility of having Iraqi opposition members who had earlier resorted to the west and have specialization in the mass destruction weapons or worked in its factories earlier.
