Al-Lewa: American citizens leave the Middle east
Regional-USA, Politics, 11/16/2002

The Lebanese daily al-Lewa' reported yesterday, according to well- informed diplomatic sources, that the US embassies in the Middle East asked its citizens to leave the region before December 7th, just before or during Eid al-Fiter as a maximum date.

The sources indicated that the American request was circulated on the embassies and diplomatic missions on Wednesday afternoon after the issuance of the decision of the Iraqi leadership, chaired by Saddam Hussein on "unconditional consent of the UN security council no. 1441.

The paper said that Arab and western diplomatic sources were surprised by the American measure and questioned its dimensions and intention and whether it bears the seeds of confirming the American strike against Iraq as rumored previously behind the diplomatic curtains, despite the fact Iraq had approved the UN security council resolution.
