Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/14/2002
The Palestinian President Yasser Arafat yesterday criticized the threats made by the Israeli foreign minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday of expelling him if he will is appointed prime minister in the coming Israeli elections.
Arafat addressed journalists in conclusion of a meeting he had with the special Chinese envoy to the Middle East that Netanyahu "should know who Yasser Arafat is. This is my country and the country of my ancestors." Arafat described the attack launched by the Israeli army on Wednesday at dawn in Nablus as " a new crime" against the Palestinians and the international peace efforts.
In a meeting for the security government, Netanyahu called for expelling Arafat. Netanyahu made of this issue the fundamental topic of his preliminary election campaign on the leadership of the Likud due to be held on January 28 for which he is competing with the current Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon.
