Oil trade continues between Damascus, Baghdad
Iraq-Syria, Politics, 11/14/2002

Trade relations in London said that the Iraqi crude oil shipment to Syria will continue in December, in what seems to be that Baghdad and Damascus have passed the effect of the vote which took place in the UN security council concerning UN resolution 1441 in which Syria agreed to the UN resolution regarding UN inspection in Iraq.

The sources explained that Syria's initial program for exporting crude oil for December indicates to shipments estimated at 450,000 barrels per day, which is almost the same level for November. A matter which shows that Iraqi oil sales to Syria through the pipelines are still ongoing.

A middleman in a Spanish oil company put the situation as saying "voting ( at the UN security Council) is a political matter and the oil is an economic matter." He added "I am sure that both of them need this commerce."

Meantime, an official at the Iraqi oil ministry said that the ministry signed agreements with each of Turkey, Syria and Jordan, according to which Iraq will be the main exporter of gas to the three countries in future.

Al-Alam ( banners ) weekly quoted the chairman of the oil and energy affairs committee at the ministry Abdul Rahman Latif al-Jabouri as saying that Iraq signed the agreements with the three countries "so as to conclude a linkage with the gas network in southern Europe."
