Blix, Syria and the UN resolution on Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 11/11/2002

The chairman of the UN inspection team Hans Blix considered that Syria's voting on the new resolution concerning Iraq has reinforced this resolutions and constituted an Arab support to it.

In a statement to the London- based al-Hayat daily issued yesterday, Blix added "I think that the Syrians fully understand that the Iraqis are their neighbors and therefore the decision was not easy for them."

Blix added "I was pleased due to the positive attitude they showed towards this resolution, noting that this resolution is to be reinforced by the vote of one Arab state which is Syria, noting that Syria represents the whole Arab region. I think this means that the region wants from Syria to adopt the resolution and the region wants Iraq to accept this resolution, " Blix commented.
