Cairo denies preventing visits of three jails including extremist Islamists
Egypt, Politics, 11/8/2002
The Egyptian" organization for human rights" has accused the Egyptian prisons authorities of closing three jails in Cairo for visitors, including detainees who are leaders and supporters of the extremist Islamic groups.
In a statement issued yesterday, the organization added that the Egyptian ministry of the interior which supervises prisons closed several days ago each of "Turra" on which strong measures are imposed and each of "Abu Zu'bol" and "Liman Abu Zu'bol" for three months due to security reasons.
However, officials in the Egyptian ministry of the interior said that the organization's claim is "false" and the said three prisons are still receiving visitors.
Islamic sources said that the three jails have been for years sheltering senior leaders of the extremist Islamic groups who are convicted of violence and terrorism issues.
