Ben Ali provides new benefits for presidential candidates
Palestine, Politics, 11/8/2002
Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has renewed his commitment to the "pan reforms policy" which is "not confined to cope with changes but prepare for the aftermath."
He repeated the call to "ensure protection for the Palestinian people" and to "dealing with the Iraqi issue by peaceful means." In a speech he delivered during a celebration held at Carthage Presidential palace on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of November 7th change ( when he came to power ), Ben Ali said that change is a continuous process and reforms will not be confined to cope with developments rather prepare for after them." He added that the pan reform policy "we have set since introducing the change is not limited to the political dimension, rather was integrated, having together economic, social and cultural elements." Ben Ali stressed that "Tunisia is a State Of Law and the establishment. As much as it honors struggle and fair dialogue, it does not accept derivations which violate the essence of human rights and the nobility of its principles. We also condemn the one who stands hostile to his country from abroad and therefore we confirm that the law is the decisive mean to challenge every one who aims at undermining the interests of the homeland."
He added "Our political reforms are the base on which we proceed firmly to developing public life, by which we support freedoms and enhance means of participation for all citizens."
He added "Beside we had given the chance for increasing the number of nominee for the forthcoming presidential elections through the newly introduced constitutional draft bill, we today announce facilitating conditions for offers to be given to candidates for the Presidency elections so as to be able to cover costs of their election campaigns." He added "we are careful to have in the next elections a new opportunity for the participation of all sides in light of the principles of transparency, democratic competition and its noble and moral value."
