Ardoghan: we will not take part in attacking Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 11/8/2002
The leader of the Justice and Development party in Turkey, Rajab Tayeb Ardogan, who enjoyed great success in the Turkish parliamentary elections last Sunday asserted Turkey's rejection to take part in any American military action against Iraq.
In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbal ( the future ) issued yesterday, Ardoghan said that his country was greatly damaged as a result of the sanctions imposed on Iraq and will not accept new losses to be inflected.
He added that Turkey hopes from Washington to give up its military plans against Iraq, showing great concern that these plans, when implemented, will result in grave problems in the region.
The Turkish leader expressed great concern over the regional developments, noting that the Middle East is suffering enough because of the lack of settlement of the Palestinian issue. He said that Turkey's people and government have supported and will continue to support the right of the Palestinian people to found their independent state on the Palestinian territories.
