Papal delegate to Jerusalem, Bethlehem
Palestine-Vatican, Politics, 11/7/2002

Pope John Paul II yesterday renewed his call for maintaining peace in the world, and the Vatican announced sending a delegate to Jerusalem and Bethlehem carrying funds to help in challenging the displacement of the Palestinians who live in the holy lands.

In a public sermon he held in front of worshippers, the Pope said " Let peace and justice prevail to restore back reconciliation to mankind."

Then the Vatican announced that the German archbishop Joseph Kurdis headed for Bethlehem. He is assigned to coordinate the charity activities of the Church. The Vatican also explained that archbishop Kurdis will also head to Jerusalem to meet with the Israeli and Palestinian authorities and will arrive in Bethlehem on November 8th carrying 400,000 dollars, a sum raised by the church to help the people of the holy lands who are obliged to evacuate.
