Turkish, Syrian observers at the Iraqi opposition meeting
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 11/7/2002
The Turkish daily "Daily News" yesterday quoted a source close to the Iraqi opposition groups that Syria, Turkey and Iran will send observers to the meeting of the Iraqi opposition which will be held in Brussels on November 22 in order to be acquainted with latest developments.
The paper added that at the time Turkey and the other countries neighboring Iraq are preparing to send observers to Brussels, the leader of the Kurdistanu National Federation party Jalal Talibani will arrive in Ankara next week in order to make consultations with the Turkish foreign ministry and officials at the "Justice and development" party who were recently elected, noting that al-Talibani has recently visited Syria and Iran.
The paper indicated that the Turkish foreign ministry denied sending observers to the meeting and also denied to have a certain fixed date for al-Talibani's visit which might be made within the framework of his frequent visits into the region prior to Brussels meeting.
