Al-Assad discusses with Moratinos conditions in the region; consequences of war against Iraq
Syria-European Union, Politics, 11/7/2002

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad yesterday in Damascus received the EU ME special envoy Angel Moratinos. The foreign minister Farouk al-Shara attended the meeting.

Discussions dealt with the general conditions in the region, standing issues and means of dealing with them in order to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The president stressed his confidence in the key European role to this effect and "the need that Europe will play a role to correct wrong stances."

He also stressed Syria's unwavering position concerning the peace process, noting that "the problem is in Israel's position."

He warned against striking Iraq noting that will raise disorder that nobody knows how it can be overcome, and that the interests of Europe and many countries will be vulnerable.
