Washington warns US companies which boycott Israel
Regional-USA, Economics, 11/6/2002

The American authorities have threatened to impose sanctions on American companies which will honor the call addressed by the" Israel's boycott office" of the Arab League to boycotting Israel economically.

On Monday evening, the US under secretary of trade said that the American government "totally rejects the restrictions imposed on trade practices or boycott against Israel."

He added that the trade department is closely following up the efforts which seem as if aimed at reviving the Arab boycott of Israel, and that the department will use all available means to implement the American laws against the boycott. The US law bans American companies from taking part in a trade sanctions imposed by foreign companies and imposes heavy financial fines in case the law is not honored.

The US official's statement came as a reply to the call addressed by some 18 Arab states, members in the Arab league, in a meeting held in the framework of the boycott office of Israel for four days last week in Damascus to "revitalize the economic boycott against Israel until Israel responds to the implementation of the international resolutions and pulls out from all occupied Arab territories."
