Amnesty International: Israel committed war crimes in Jenin, Nablus

The Amnesty International has accused the Israeli army of committing war crimes during operations launched during the spring of this year in Nablus and Jenin to the north of the West bank.

In a report issued today under the title " a preventive fence against investigation: the violations of the Israeli army in Jenin and Nablus " the organization has called on Israel and the international community to make investigations in order to define the responsible for these "war crimes " regardless to their posts. The organization stressed that the Israeli army had during the "protective fence operation" killed civilians, tortured prisoners and used civilians as human shields and destroyed houses and prevented the transfer of medical and humanitarian aids to the Palestinians.

The director of the regional strategy in the organization, Javier Zoniga, considered that Israel should hold the responsibility for these acts and to cooperate through opening an investigation on the behavior of the Israeli army during the operation which was called the "protective fence " and launched on march 29th. He said " the responsibility is shared by the soldier who killed a person without a reason and those who are in the leading positions who gave orders to move and then hide such acts, regardless to their posts in the government because they are politically responsible, including the prime minister," Ariel Sharon.

Zoniga added the " first thing that should have taken place is to open a judicial investigation ( by the Israeli judiciary." A matter which has not happened so far."
