Kuwait's FM: US forces are in the bases; then how will they not use them?

Kuwait's first deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah said yesterday that the US can use the military bases in his country in launching an attack against Iraq if the UN approved so, denying that Kuwait has recently installed military foundations on its northern borders.

The Kuwaiti news agency quoted Sheikh al-Sabah as saying after the end of the session of the nation's council ( parliament) yesterday " we are not a side in the war between Iraq and the US and Britain and the UN Security Council as a whole, and therefore the Kuwaiti army will not enter Iraq, and the UN security council will not impose this on us."

On the use of the Kuwaiti bases by the Americans in case a UN security resolution is issued providing for striking Iraq, Sheikh Sabah said:" we hope first that a UN decision will be issue and we are committed to such a decision." He indicated that the " American forces are in Kuwait according to an agreement signed with the American administration to liberate Kuwait and they are (here) for that reason."

He added that the American forces are already in the Kuwaiti bases and asked "so how will they not use them?" implying that they can use the bases.
