Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 11/5/2002

The advisor of the Sudanese President for political affairs Qutbi al-Mahdi has unveiled intensive acts of arrest in Sudan among Eritreans suspected to feed Eritrea with security reports especially in regard of the attacks on the Eastern front of Sudan.

Al-Mahdi told the Sudanese daily al- Hurriyah ( freedom) in its yesterday's issue that the aim of these acts of arrest is to uncover the intelligence cells. He described this step as natural under the deteriorated relations between Khartoum and Asmara.

On cooperation between the Sudanese government and the Eritrean opposition. He explained that the government and the ruling party have agreed not to deal with the opposition militarily, rather supporting it politically and recognizing it as political leaderships for Eritrea.
