Sudan warns against war extension to west; dealing with Affourki's opposition is justified
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 11/4/2002

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has announced that his country's dealing with Eritrea's opposition is justified as far as Eritrea is deploying its soldiers along the Eastern borders.

Ismael told journalists following his meeting with the secretary general of the ruling National Congress Party Ibrahim Ahmad Omar that "politically speaking, we deal with the Eritrean opposition because we see that there is enough justification for that." He added that the Sudanese security department monitored aggregations by Eritrean soldiers on the Eastern borders of Sudan despite what was announced by the USA.

The Sudanese radio said that the leader of Eritrea's opposition, Harwi Tidla Bayro, on Friday called on Sudan, Ethiopia and Yemen to make direct "support" to topple the Eritrean President Asyas Afourki. The radio added that Bayro, the secretary general for the Eritrean national alliance, made this call during a meeting attended by members of the Eritrean community in Khartoum.

On the other hand, the political advisor of the Sudanese presidency Ghazi Salah Eddin announced that the government has reached an agreement with the rebels on 80% of the 8 issues under debate, mainly the sharing of resources, the authorities, the security arrangements and the structure of the state and the truce.
