Iraq-Russia, Politics, 11/4/2002

Russia on Saturday informed the Arab League (AL) officially its decision which rejects any decision to be released by the UN Security Council that would permit the use of force against Iraq, spontaneously.

This rejection was expressed in a message to the AL chief Amr Moussa received from the Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov. The message was conveyed by the Russian ambassador to Cairo during his meeting with the AL chief on Saturday.

Following the meeting, the Russian ambassador stressed that his country's efforts during the current consultations at the UN Security Council concerning the Iraqi issue concentrates on the need of reaching a solution for the Iraqi issue by political and diplomatic means and to work for the return back of UN inspectors to Iraq as soon as possible.
