Education is the biggest national project
Egypt, Education, 11/2/2002

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday said that education is the biggest national project that will put Egypt on the map of the civilized world.

The education budget this year is at LE 22.5 billion, compared with LE 660 million in 1981.

Improving financial and social conditions for teachers is a noble goal, President Mubarak said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Education Hussein Kamel Bahaa' Eddin on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

Quality of textbooks, not quantity of their contents, should be in line with the vision of the future, Mubarak said, adding that ongoing curriculum development should equip future generations with the relevant technological skills.

"We must learn from foreign experience, since education has no limits," he said.

"The labor market should cater for all recent graduates," the president said, noting that the teacher is the vital link to modernisation and development.
