US Jewish organizations request banning series
Egypt-USA, Politics, 11/2/2002

Jewish organizations in the United States raised anger over a series Faris Bela Gawad (A Horseless Knight), which will be broadcast by the Egyptian Television during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, under the pretext that it undermines the history of the Jews.

The Israeli Anti-Defamation League (ADL) spearheaded the campaign, sending a letter to US Secretary of State Colin Powell in which it said that the Arab mass media are depicting the Israelis and Jews as monsters.

US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the Department received information that the series is hinting to the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, adding the US administration raised this issue with Egypt and other countries that will televise the series.

US State Department assistant spokesman Philip Reeker said that raising such superstitions might tickle sentiments.

A Jewish organization said that it will stage a demonstration in front of the Egyptian embassy in Washington on Monday in protest against the series.
