Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 11/2/2002

Thousands of men who performed their Friday's prayers at al-Azhar mosque following Friday's prayers denounced the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people and chanted slogans in which they called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Cairo. The demonstrators also called for the need of revitalizing Arab unity. They denounced the American onslaught against the Arab and Islamic world.

Simultaneously, al- Azhar mosques also witnessed a women demonstration which by its self denounced the American position and voiced support for the Iraqi people.

Meantime, al-Azhar Grand Sheikh, Muhammad Sayed Tantawi, urged in Friday's sermon the Arab and Islamic peoples to the need of committing to principles and not to be disappointed as means to be victorious.
