Morocco trustworthy for investors, Belgian speaker

Morocco is currently one of the countries that inspire confidence to foreign investors, said speaker of the Belgian House of Representatives, Herman De Croo, who is currently on a visit to Morocco.
Speaking at a meeting in Casablanca Wednesday with head of the Moroccan employers federation (CGEM), Hassan Chami, the Belgian speaker praised Morocco's progress in economic liberalization and its efforts to lower barriers to investments.
Morocco has great chances to succeed in its transition to liberalism, as was the case for Spain and Portugal, he said.
Hassan Chami called the Belgian deputies to publicize Morocco in their country, and to promote business opportunities between Belgian and Moroccan operators.
De Croo and his delegation met on Wednesday Speaker of the Moroccan chamber of Advisers (upper house of parliament), Mustapha Okacha.
The two parties discussed foreign investment in Morocco and the contribution of the Belgium-settled Moroccan community to the sector.
De Croo lauded Morocco's leap in the democratic process, crowned by the September 27 polls. He also lauded the kingdom's achievements, which enabled it acquire a privileged position, especially in Europe.
The visiting speaker voiced hope that the European Union supports the Moroccan economy, and enhances cooperation with the kingdom to meet the Moroccan people's aspiration to modernity and progress.
Okacha stressed the facilities and advantages granted to economic operators under the new law on investment, reiterating Morocco's hope that the European Union adopts a new vision of ties with the north-African nation, taking into consideration its new expectations.
The Belgian speaker had met Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohammed Benaissa, and his peer of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower chamber of parliament), Abdelouahed Radi.
