Morocco probes cooperation with Islamic call association
Morocco-Libya, Politics, 10/31/2002
Means to upgrade cooperation between Morocco and the Libyan Islamic Call (Daawa) Association were probed in Rabat Tuesday by Moroccan minister of Habous (endowments) and Islamic affairs, Abdelkbir Alaoui M'daghri, and the Association secretary general, Mohammed Sharif.
M'daghri and Sharif agreed to cooperate in "the modernization of Islamic thought, particularly in this stage through which the Islamic Ummah (Nation) goes and wherein enthusiasm prevails over mature reflection."
The two sides called for reflection over means of making (preaching) at the service of modern Islamic thought.
Such cooperation can be promoted through the training of scholars and preachers, the two men said.
M'daghri and Sharif discussed the creation of a technical commission that will devise plans of action to help Muslim communities living in western countries to preserve their Muslim identity.
The talks were followed by a meeting of cadres of the department of Habous and Islamic affairs and members of the Libyan association.
