Al-Assad receives Rev. Awad, Sheikh Qabalan, stressing national unity
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 10/31/2002

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad yesterday received Rev. Adeeb Awad, the Biblical secretary general in Syria and Lebanon.

Al-Assad listened from Rev Awad to explanations about his activity in the region. He urged the need of exerting efforts to enhance national unity and to firmly challenge hostile campaigns launched against Syria and Lebanon.

The president also received yesterday, the Jaafarite Mufti in Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Ameer Qabalan, who is also the deputy chairman of the higher Shiite council in Lebanon.

Talks between the president and Sheikh Qabalan dealt with conditions in Lebanon and the efforts made by the higher Shiite Islamic council there to enhance fraternal ties between the peoples of Syria and Lebanon.
