Some 800 marines are stationed in Djibouti
Djibouti-USA, Politics, 10/31/2002

Gen. Tommy Francs, the commander of the US forces in the Gulf, said on Tuesday evening that a contingent of 800 marines is stationed in Djibouti in order to make maneuvers with other countries in the African horn and to challenge any likely activity suspected to be carried out by al-Qaida organization.

In press statements Gen. Tommy said that the mariners are active in Djibouti even on the board of ships which are roving the region.

He explained that the US is desiring to deal with friendly countries to help them eliminate terrorism problems.

Gen. Francs said that Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Yemen are among countries with which the American forces want to collaborate closely.
