Qatar-Libya, Politics, 10/29/2002

Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi yesterday received a verbal message from the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani on bilateral relations and latest developments on the Arab arena.

The message was conveyed by the Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad during his meeting with the Libyan leader yesterday evening in Tripoli. Earlier in the day, the Qatari foreign minister arrived in Tripoli and was welcomed by the secretary of the people's general committee for African unity in Libya Dr. Ali Abdul Salaam al- Tureiki, Qatar's ambassador to Libya and high ranking officials concerned in Libya.

The Qatari FM called for convening a meeting at the highest level of the Arab states to be dedicated for the Arab situation after Libya expressed its determination to withdraw from the Arab League. In a press conference he held in Tripoli in conclusion of the meeting with the Libyan leader Al-Qathafi, the Qatari FM said that there is an agreement with the Libyan officials to convene an Arab meeting at highest level to discuss the Arab situations. He added that his country which at the meantime, presides over the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC is making contacts with OIC member states to convene a summit for the Islamic states at the Libyan request.
