Al-Watan: First Saudi trade delegation to pass through Ar'ar crossing on Thursday
Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Economics, 10/29/2002

The Jdidat Ar'ar border opening between Saudi Arabia and Iraq will on Thursday witness the passage of the first Saudi trade delegation including 101 businessmen and representatives of Saudi companies in an initiative which marks an actual inauguration of this crossing which has been closed since the second Gulf war, 12 years ago before passengers and goods, with the exception of the pilgrims and those who perform the "minor Omra" rituals.

In it its yesterday's issue, the Saudi daily al-Watan said that the Saudi exports promotion center is in charge of organizing the visit of the delegation in the context of the Saudi participation in the Baghdad's international Fair which will be opened on Friday. The Saudi pavilion to this fair includes remarkable economic figures including the chairman of the executive center of the Saudi exports promotion center, who is also member of the Saudi Shoura council Abdul Rahman al-Zamel, and the secretary general of the council of the Saudi chambers of trade and industry Fahd al-Sultan and others.

This event is coincided with press news which say that the Iraqi trade minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh will open tomorrow the Iraqi side of Ar'ar crossing marking the beginning of starting transit of the Saudi goods exported to Iraq in the framework of the "oil for food" program through this crossing away from the need to transport them through Jordan. A matter which contribute to reducing shipment costs.
