Yemeni FM confers with Burns on Iraq, developments
Yemen-USA, Politics, 10/28/2002

The Yemeni foreign minister Abu baker al-Qurabi has renewed his country's position in rejecting the idea of resorting to force against Iraq. He stressed the need of giving an opportunity for the UN inspectors and warned that any attack against Iraq will result in grave consequences and will be only conducive to increasing tension and destabilizing the region.

During his meeting on Saturday in Aden with the US Assistant for the state secretary William Burns, al-Qurabi said that interfering in the internal affairs of Iraq will be unprecedented in undermining states sovereignty and violating international standards.

Al-Qurabi also criticized the American policy concerning the Palestinian authority, noting it is in the Palestinian internal affairs, noting it is illegal to interfere in the Palestinian internal affairs.

For his part, Burns stressed on Saturday Washington's persistence to continue helping Yemen in the economic field and in fighting terrorism.

In conclusion of his meeting with the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Aden, Burns said that the US is committed to help the Yemeni government in the economic field and to fighting terrorism. SANA.
