Baghdad takes the pulse of opposition member on a plenary government
Iraq, Politics, 10/26/2002
Iraqi opposition members have considered that the attempt made by the Iraqi regime to take the pulse of Iraqis in exile, on the possibility of their participation in the government, is but an attempt by the regime to survive under the American threat of war, while others have not rule out accepting this Iraqi regime proposal.
The representative of the " Higher council of the Islamic revolution in Iraq" in London, Hamid al-Bayano, said it is a step aimed at continuing the rule of Saddam Hussein, considering that "the Iraqi regime has started now a new game in which it will negotiate with some of the Iraqis abroad who have links with the regime."
The Iraqi writer Abdul Ameer al-Rikabi, who lives in Paris said he expects that the government will resume talks with Iraqis in exile like him on forming a new government that he will be asked to preside over. Al-Rikabi ( 55 year old) added "If I am asked to carry out a national duty ( presiding over a government ) I will perform it."
