The greatest breakthrough Hizbullah made into the Israeli military establishment; Israel discloses spy network by an army officer

Israel was bewildered yesterday when the court permitted issuing the news of arresting a high ranking army officer in the Israeli army together with other ten under the charges of spying for the Hizbullah party and trading drugs.

This bewilderment was not alleviated by the news that not all those are Jews but "Israeli Arabs." Having Hizbullah reached this level inside the Israeli army, regardless to the religion or sect of the arrested spying officer, constituted a big shock.

Discovering the network was a strong blow for the harmony believed to be existed between the Arabs who serve in the Israeli army. It is known that the compulsory military service on the Arabs in the Israeli army is selective. This military services is prescribed on members of the Druz community and children of the Bedouins in Negev and the Galilee as well the Sharkas Muslims and the Israeli army is permitted to have selectively several Arab Muslims and Christians to be recruited in its lines.

This is, however, the first time in which an Israeli army officer at this level is accused of contacting with Hizbullah. Just ten years ago one Israel army officer was convicted of trading with drugs with Lebanese sides.

According to the Israeli information, this army officer is, together with his family linked to good relations with senior Israeli officials. To prove his loyalty to Israel, his family which lives in "Arab al-Zarzir" village and showed his photos with the former Israeli army chief of staff Shaoul Mofaz and with Israeli Presidents.

It is worthy mentioning that all information about this case came from the Israeli sources, as Hizbullah refused to comment on this case either by denying or confirmation.

The Israeli military correspondents indicated that Hizbullah asked members of the spy network to get security information on the volume and positions of the Israeli army deployment along the northern borders in general, the volume and positions of the Israeli forces redeployment along the borders with Lebanon; positions of installed ambushes by the Israeli forces on the borders and in Shebaa farms together with other information on the spying balloons launched by Israel against Lebanon.
