Campaigns to evacuate Eritreans from Kasla; US sanctions not justified
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 10/23/2002

Khartoum yesterday criticized US President George Bush signing of a law that provides for imposing sanctions on Sudan in case it will not negotiate "with good intention" with the rebels in the south.

According to the US "Sudan peace act," Washington can have sanctions against Sudan and suspend diplomatic relations if it considers the Sudanese government as not negotiating in good intention or it exaggerates its interference in the humanitarian efforts made in the south.

The US will also try to prevent Sudan from using its oil resources to buy weapons, and also to encourage the UN security council adopting a resolution to impose an embargo on Sudan regarding buying weapons.

The new US law also states to permit the US administration to give 100 million dollars annually for the fiscal years 2003; 2004; and 2005 in order to improve living conditions of the Sudanese areas which are out of the control of the government.

Meantime, campaigns to evacuate all foreigners to refugees camps outside Kasla province, east Sudan, have started after the regional government issued a decision for preventing foreigners from presence inside the cities.

The decision of the province stated to displace "Wad Shreifi" camp for refugees which includes more than 40,000 Eritrean refugees out of 320,000 spread all over the province.
