Euro-Med conference on child's rights hosted in Morocco
Regional-Morocco, Culture, 10/19/2002
"Child's rights and human security in the Euro-Mediterranean region" is the theme of a Euro-Mediterranean conference, to be held in Marrakesh, Oct. 22-24.
The conference, to be chaired by Morocco's Princess Lalla Meryem, sister of King Mohammed VI, will be an opportunity for signatory countries of the United Nations convention on child's rights to devise a 2003 action plan in favor of children.
Participants will identify major challenges in terms of child's rights and security and set up practical partnership ties among Euro-Mediterranean universities and scientific research centers with a view to curbing dangers threatening children in the region.
They will focus on malnutrition, exploitation and AIDS/HIV as major threats to children's security.
The conference will be held in presence of UNESCO good will ambassadors, human rights and civil society activists from several European and Mediterranean countries.
The event is held in association with the UNESCO, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and other United Nations agencies.
