5 + 5 Mediterranean countries adopt Tunisia's declaration on migration

Works of the ministerial committee in the West Mediterranean region which was held in the framework of the West Mediterranean states group ( 5+5 countries) were concluded on Friday by adopting Tunisia's declaration concerning migration.
The five + five group is composed of the member states of the Maghreb federation: Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania and from France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Malta.
The declaration read that concerning migration and joint development, stress was laid on studying reasons of migration trends and possible solutions and providing appropriate conditions in order to enable migrants to carry out their due role in developing their countries of origin especially through investment and developing the process of technology transfer and exchange of expertise between the countries of the region.
Concerning the rights of migrants and the process of integrating them, the declaration called for enhancing the process of integration and protecting human rights and basic freedoms of migrants who live legally, together with honoring the diverse culture of migrants, according to bilateral agreements, the partnership agreements and international agreements concerning, as well as improving living conditions and facilitating measures relating to them.
The declaration stressed that merging migrants who are legally in the countries of the west bank of the Mediterranean should be given duties and rights of those migrants according to bilateral agreements, the partnership agreements and agreements concerned, besides making the public opinion aware about the rights and duties of the emigrants so as to honor their dignity and performance.
In this regard, the declaration stressed the need of organizating migration for work in order to fill the possible sectoral gap in the human resources in the countries of the Mediterranean west bank.
